The ISMTE Podcast Series launched in January 2022 as part of the society’s year-long anniversary celebration. Each month, the host and a new guest delve into hot topics, innovations, and educational tools we can all learn more about and put into daily practice in our respective roles. The series is hosted by Phaedra Cress, Vice President of ISMTE and Executive Publisher, Journals for Aesthetic Surgery Journal and ASJ Open Forum.
Look for new episodes monthly, drop us a line if you’d like to participate or suggest a topic for a future podcast, and let us know how we’re doing here: [email protected].
“ISMTE webinars help drive conversations and inform your peers about what is important in publishing.”
ISMTE offers informative events throughout the year, including our ongoing series of webinars. Our webinars cover a broad range of topics relevant to publishing professionals, from how to manage an editorial office to emerging industry trends to aspects of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Our webinars always feature industry experts who bring engaging presentations and discussions, with opportunities for attendees to ask questions and join in the conversation.
My path to the Webinar Committee began when I was asked to join a webinar speaker panel. It was a great experience, enough so that when I saw an ISMTE call for volunteers, I signed up to join the committee, eventually being asked to step into the role of committee chair.
The ISMTE Webinar Committee meets monthly to plan these events. Being the host for a webinar—maybe once a year with help of the entire committee—involves reaching out to peers across the publishing industry to secure speakers, and then overseeing a smooth running of the online event.
Being a part of the Webinar Committee is a wonderful opportunity to develop skills, make new connections, and have a voice in our industry. In addition to honing your public speaking, moderating a discussion teaches its own set of skills for directing the flow of a conversation, asking questions at the right moments, prioritizing attendee comments, and keeping everything on-time.
ISMTE webinars help drive conversations and inform your peers about what is important in publishing, and being a part of the committee means that you get to help set the terms of those conversations.
Working on this committee has been thoroughly engaging and rewarding, and we’d love to have more members join us. If you’re interested, or if you have any questions, I’d like to hear from you!
ISMTE committees and task forces are always looking for motivated member volunteers. If you’re interested, please complete the ISMTE Volunteer Form or contact Anke van Eekelen, ISMTE Volunteer Board Liaison, at [email protected] for more information.
