Introducing “Neurodiversity Case Reports”

Caitlyn Trautwein, EON Co-EIC, Associate Managing Editor, Journals, ASCO

When I started the I AM EDITOR column, I did so with the intent to create a space that would re-humanize us as editors, to reveal the people behind the screens, to delve into issues of burnout, neurodiversity, mental health, transparency, and connection. I wanted to have an opportunity to connect with my fellow editors as the deeply complicated, vibrant, talented, brilliant people they are, not just as their job titles or career paths. I have been so delighted to hear perspectives from readers and contributors that taught me something new or showed me that my personal struggles are shared by others, which in turn has given me an opportunity to share tips and tricks that have helped me, to learn from those who also experience neurodiversity in their professional and personal lives, and to understand the different types of neurodiversity across the spectrum.

“Neurodiversity Case Reports” opens that opportunity to all of you—whether autism, ADHD, OCD, etc., your story is invited for sharing with your fellow editors, the good and the bad, the difficult and the useful. What struggles have you encountered, how have you overcome, how have you found connection and support? What unexpected tricks have you developed to keep yourself on track, and how have you found yourself putting those sometimes pesky neurospicy habits to good use? We want to hear your perspective and broaden this community which is so much larger and warmer than any of us would think.
